History
Founded in 1995 by Chief Reuben Greenberg, the band has traveled throughout much of the Eastern United States Seaboard, and Canada performing at parades, festivals, public events, funerals, and Scottish Highland Games. When first formed, the Officer in Charge, Sean Pike, looked to Pipe Major Sandy Jones to provide leadership to the band. Sandy was the Director of The Citadel Pipe Band and former Pipe Major of the United States Air Force Pipe Band. His skills and experiences led the band to many successes and built up an excellent corps of pipers and drummers. In 2000, Erik Page was promoted to Officer in Charge and in 2001 the leadership was handed over to Pipe Major James Dillahey, who is also the current Director of The Citadel Pipe Band, following Sandy's retirement in June of 2002. The band completed the season competing at two levels: Grade V and Grade IV. The 2004 competition season marked the bands first wearing of the City of Charleston Police tartan designed specifically for the band. This tartan replaced the McLean of Duart tartan and was first worn at the Virginia Scottish Games in Alexandria, VA. In 2005, Grade IV Band was upgraded to Grade III and won most of its competitions in its first year. During this same year, the Grade V band proved to be a top power in the Grade V ranks. The organization has achieved success at any level it competes from Grade V to Grade II. The band was restructured to begin the 2008 season requesting a downgrade from Grade II to Grade III and Grade IV to Grade V. The band continues to grow and develop.
